Michael E. Barsocchini AIA - Current Projects

During the last twenty five years, Mr. Barsocchini has concentrated on the design of custom single family residences in the coastal area of California. The custom residences reflect Mr. Barsocchini's personal design philosophy of blending a residence into the natural terrain of the land, and of using the forms in nature as a design source.

Energy conserving principals such as solar energy systems, both active and passive are incorporated into the design of residences. The ideal house compliments its building site, takes advantage of views, ventilates naturally, uses minimum energy, and develops architectural spaces with a human scale, and has a timeless quality.

Commercial projects include the design of restaurants Malibu, Miami and Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Local commercial projects involve the design of neighborhood shopping centers in the west Malibu area at the intersection of Busch Drive and Pacific Coast Highway and in the City of El Segundo directly across from the Los Angeles International Airport. Current commercial projects include two large office complexes for Pepperdine University in the Malibu Civic Center.

In Malibu typical current projects are the design of beach front residences, design of inland estate homes and major remodels to existing residences. All processing through the City of Malibu and the California Coastal Commission is handled by our office as well as the coordination of consultants such as Landscape Architects, Surveyors, Geologists, Environmental Health Consultant, Structural Engineer and Civil Engineer.

A major current institutional project in Malibu is the design of the Malibu Jewish Center and Synagogue which is in collaboration with Ed Niles FAIA. This project consists of a permanent synagogue, a religious courtyard, a social hall, administrative complex and preschool and religious school.

Another current project is the design of the five Zhongkai Sheshan Villas in the 90 home water oriented planned community, forty-five minutes west of the city of Shanghai, China. The three level designs incorporate the latest in smart home design, and integrate the architecture, and landscaping with the adjacent waterways, and rivers.
